It's a tough one

I remember when Joe Ferrari used to edit the Pink'Un - he and I had a spat on the old club website about this very issue.

As (at that time) an exile for quite a lot of years, feeling deprived and very lucky to be able to make the few games I could (only about ten a season at home at that point, and a similar number away) I was arguing that we fans should be passionate and make as much noise as we could.

Whereas he was arguing that to generate passion in the stands, the players need to show some passion on the pitch: if they patently don't care then why should we?

Then Joe changed his job and with it his tune. Though I can quite understand his point of view on either side of the debate to be honest.

In recent years, up until this season, I've been able to go to almost all home games and about half the aways. This season for family reasons I've only been to five games.

Going from a "regular" to an "occasional" has flipped my own view once again: as a "regular", I expected performance on the pitch and after something like what happened at Poorman Road I will feel dejected and down for a few games - so very unlikely to sing. However as an "occasional" I really appreciate every opportunity I get to see the boys play and want to sing my heart out (though I don't plough a lone furrow if everyone else is being quiet).

I can understand Grant's point of view and I think one welcome change has been his willingness to share his honest opinion with us, whether we'll like it or not. That said, following the manner of the defeat at Ipswich I can also understand the atmosphere on Saturday (as it was reported - I wasn't there).

He and we are still "feeling each other out" a bit. Neither we nor he should judge each other too much at this stage - let's see where we end up in a few months.
