Grant was right to criticise the fans

Coming out of the ground on saturday I was pissed off with our own fans myself, so it was no surprise when I heard Grant saying what he did just an hour later.

Fact - Robert Eagle was booed by a few (followed by some groans) after he lost possession a couple of times. Ok, so he may not be the next Darren Eadie (probably more likely to be the next Karl Simpson!), but hey, that does not mean we boo a young lad making only his 2nd league start!! We go on about having to use the Academy lads more and as soon as we do, we try and shatter their confidence. Brilliant.

Fact - Andy Hughes booed (by more than just a few) as he came onto the pitch. I do not rate the guy, but that did not stop me being one of only a few to give him a clap as he entered the pitch. As I say, I, like many others, don't believe he is good enough for us but that does not mean I boo my own player. FFS, he is trying to help Norwich win the football match, even if he makes mistakes and is just not good enough.

Fact - Carl Robinson booed quite a bit. Again, I don't particularly rate the guy but why boo??? This was driving me mad as shattering player's already fragile confidence does no-one any good whatsoever. There were a few times, particularly in the first half when Robinson played either a square ball or came backwards, only for a chorus of disgruntled boos. Typical English mentality, "forwards not backwards ffs!". What should he have done, lump it forwards to our little guys up front you are heavily marked out of the game, with no-one else providing much option?

Fact - already mentioned below, but singing "we're shirt and we're 1-0 up" is ridiculous in the extreme.

Fact - Peter Thorne was booed when he came on and people were having a go on Radio Norfolk afterwards abaout him. Again, we all know he's not brilliant but the guy is still trying to win a game for Norwich, however successful or not he is going about trying to achieve this. For what it's worth, I actually think he made a difference to us for the final 20mins as he was the one option we then had to aim for, creating some knowck-downs for Earnie, Hux, Etuhu etc to play off. At least he was an option which proved it's worth in the goal.

Booing achieves nothing and these things riled me on saturday and I completely agree with Grant. You can't say that didin't happen, so what has Grant said that is wrong??

Like it or not, Grant has inherited a squad that needs a complete overhall, and this will not just be resolved in the January transfer window. Unfortunately I think it will take at least until next August and probably not until August 2008 before we can hope to have a decent squad challenging where we want it to be. You can't just rebuild a squad in a few weeks or months - it all takes time.

As Man in the Stands said in saturday's Pink Un; "We need to remain loyal and we're just gonna have to ride this one out". I agree with him.
