"Doherty: this will turn our season around"
The big man who stands at the heart of City's defence came out all guns blazing today. The narrow and unlucky defeat to Ipswich on Sunday has generated criticism from some unenlightened quarters, but the Doc insists that it is just what the doctor ordered for City.
"I think the lads were getting a bit complacent after our brilliant recent form", he said simply. "This kind of kick up the backside is just what we needed. There's just so much quality in the team everywhere you look - Andy Hughes spraying the ball around in midfield, Carl tackling everything that moves, Dickson running the show. All we needed was a wake-up call."
Doherty's team mate, international star Robinson, whole-heartedly agreed. "The lads have had a good chat about it in the dressing room" he reveals. "We've all agreed we're an outstanding bunch of players who just need to get rid of that little bit of complacency that can creep in when you're as skilful as we are. I mean, that's why we lost at Ipswich. No disrespect to them, but we were just too skilful for their pitch and too skilful to deal with that kind of 100mph kick and rush that they play. They got the result, and fair play to them, but it was only because we're too good for them. We've all held our hands up to being too skilful and brilliant, and we all feel that our season is going to turn a corner in the next match."
