Thoughts from Saturday

I thought that our midfield was terrible in the first half. They played in a line across the pitch. No one went forward. This isolated Earnie and Hucks. It also gave Sunderland loads of space to play easy balls to one another without being harassed. Paul McVeigh had another poor game, he was truly dreadful. I would have thought that he would be really fired up and trying to prove a point. His ball to Earnie was good, but was the obvious pass as Earnie had made so much space. I think that any other player on our books would have played it.

The midfield players hardly ever pass the ball to one another. I don?t think I saw a single one-two during the whole game. This was probably due to their lack of movement. Basically, I don?t think that they worked hard enough, which is probably due to a lack of confidence. Why burst forward when we are going to give the ball away and you have to chase back? This is the area that Grant needs to address.

Did Gallagher have a save to make? He might have in the first half as I think that I was asleep! I also thought that Earnie had a bad game. He scored the goal so he is entitled to the odd mis-control and bad ball.

Andy Hughes played well when he came on. I don?t think that he made a single mistake! Colin has improved beyond all recognition.

Dublin was awesome! I still can?t believe how good he is in the air.

Anyway three points, a clean sheet some good performances while a couple of players have staked their claim to be shipped out in January!
