fao: STEVE IN HOLLAND re: your post about "poppy day"

normally i enjoy your posts, sence of humour and banter, and whilst i too respect your veiws on most topical things was disgusted at your post about poppy day.

speaking as an ex-serviceman of 10yrs myself who has lost friends and colleagues in recent conflicts i probably find this subject more emotional than others. The good thing to come out of your post (for me, anyway) is the reaction of some of the other members of WOTB, most who are prob younger than me and who have lesser links with the forces.

It fills me with joy to see 10 and 12 year old lads in gloucester city centre wearing a poppy - my friends son has NO family connections with ANY service but still proudly wears one and knows why he is wearing it.

Soon it wont be seen as being "pc" to wear it no doubt, or it could even be seen as being "nationalistic" or even "right wing" for fear of offending ethnic minorities or other religeous persasions - despite many other religions and races fighting together against evil fascism and tyranny.

We have our freedom now so you can voice your opinion, thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice......... it was voltaire who once said "i may not agree with what you say, but i'll defend to the last your right to say it".

We should remember them..............
