Magdalen Street

You're right, most people wouldn't consider going down Magdalen Street, which is a shame cos there are some good bits to it. Very good Indian restaurants, nice Tapas bar, King's Head is a really good boozer with great range of beers and the Thai restaurant's good as well. Best to avoid the Cat and Fiddle end and Anglia Square, where you come across a different class of person. Sadly, that tends to tarnish the reputation of the whole street.
