As I said, most Student Unions will allow you in if you're a bona fide guest of a NUS member. Our place used to charge a 50p signing in fee for each non-NUS person, and you had to sign to essentially agree to be responsible for them, i.e. if they start a fight, you risk getting banned yourself.

Not that any of my mates would start fights, but that was the idea of the signing in thing.
