I repeat...
The 'WOTB' Message Board is riddled with messages on transfers ranging from links to lazy journalists (with nothing better to write about in the close season) to farcical suggestions from contributors to this website.
Nigel Worthington may have the tactical knowledge of an aardvark on acid but he is a shrewd operator in the transfer market (Dean Ashton being the most notable example). My view, for what it is worth, is that 'Worthy' will have his eyes on 1 Central Defender, 1 Right Back, 1 Left Back, 2 Central Midfielders and 1 Striker (or attacking Winger).
To speculate on who these players will be is madness. To accuse the NCFC manager of being slow (and to deny him the right to a close season holiday) is ludicrous. Contractual negotiations in football are a minefield with competing clubs, the pernicious influence of the agents and the protracted nature of terms for transfer. In addition, we are hardly the richest club in the Coca Cola championship (unless we sell Ashton or Green - again, no cast-iron information has reached us on this possibility) so to speculate on so-called 'big-name' signing is ridiculous.
Worthington knows what he is doing. Let the manager select the 2005/2006 season squad and stop pontificating on who we should buy/sell. Also stop spreading rumours on transparent falsities ('I know someone who knows someone who know's Green's cleaner's aunt's brother). Some people on this message board thrive on such poltroonery.
The only valid criticisms of Worthington should be on his tactical decision making. NOT his strategic imperative to strenthen the squad for next season.
Toodle pip!
