Certainly, nowhere near enough has been invested in the squad since the Huckerby and McKenzie signings in Dec '03. An amazing amount of clubs seem to do this: Wolves (bless 'em) spent God knows how much in trying to get into the Prem - but as soon as they did (or more accurately, after their collapse in 01/2), stopped spending altogether. And then they wondered why it all went wrong. Weird...
Your points about the many reasons why our debt should surely be nowhere near as big are excellent. Certainly, although I feel we used the Premiership money to stabilise things, our debts are VERY worrying. On my blog, already a couple of respondents have pretty much adopted an attitude of "Smith out!" And while I wouldn't go that far - what I want is for the board to learn from their mistakes, and especially, to stop behaving like such pussies - there may be more people out there with such a radical stance than I, or maybe even the board, had realised...
