I don't think compensation is very much, and it's not like you'd want your old job back under those circumstances. Probably not worth the hassle.
Caveat: I'm not an employment lawyer so have bugger all idea on this area.
Also, I dont really see the problem - it's simply economics at work. We consumers want cheap products/services, so obviously costs have got to be minimised somewhere along the line. And yet we're the first to grumble about 'rip off Britain'. Can't have our cake & eat it.
