I also believe that it was specifically designated as 2 games so as to actually give a relatively short timescale - one home, one away - but to specify one game would also have been derided. Hence the strange wording of the statement.
I also wonder, although cannot offer any fact behind this, whether preliminary discussions had already started to the effect of mutual consent.
Given the abject display yesterday, however, the meeting after the game concluded that only the effect of SACKING him would have the desired PR effect. At the end of the day, the end result to all parties is very similar.
