Actually I disagree.

As soon as the Board gave him the ridiculous 2 game ultimatum, they guaranteed that the protests would continue.

If we'd won 2-0 yesterday. would they have still sacked him after the game? I doubt it.
Therefore people were bound to protest to keep the pressure up.
In contrast protests *after* the game were pretty unnecessary. But rather predictable, after what people had just seen....
