I know it's obvious but...

we desperately need a manager with a brain. With a plan that goes beyond just running fast and being physically fit.

Look at the most successfull managers in the league (whichever league you choose). Intelligent people, whether they have a pleasant personality or not - Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger - take it down a notch and you have Dave Jones, Burley etc. They don't have to have played at the highest level - you can make a long list out of top quality players who have failed as managers, even when given shed loads of cash.

What we need is a manager who has a plan that encompasses what to do when we have a free kick, throw-in or any other set play, or when the opposiiton does. Who knows how and when to make substitutions. I could go on. These are all routine procedures that occur several times during every game that we have looked unable to deal with and what's worse, unimaginative and inept. And today was an embarrassing shambles, with the exceptions of Earnshaw, Huckerby, Colin and Gallagher, who got by on effort and skill alone.

Worthington was a good manager who swept clean the inadequacies of what went before and gave us momentum and a regime of fitness and determination (and some good times on the way). He lacked the nous, intellect and preparation to take us further and keep us there. Time for a change (which a lot of us said a year ago...).
