Grist to the Green rumour mill....

A friend of mine played Golf with Green at some charity do the other week... mainly old Canaries there, eg Punton, Kennon, etc.
Him and his business partner were sat with Green when some wig was making his speech and the speaker said something about nice to see that at least one of the players present wasn't an ex-canary, to which Green said, at a volume only audible to my mate and his friend - "you won't be saying that in two weeks time..."

was he being mischeiveous?
does Green have prior knowledge of impending doom for the speaker?
or is it something more?
