To be honest, I get the sense Delia and co have been trying to distance themselves from him for quite a while now: by gradually removing their public support for him (not just on Monday, but in Delia's comment at a fans' meeting at the start of the season that he was on 'borrowed time'), and especially not giving him backing in the transfer market, the board have been locked in a staring match with Worthington: who will blink first?

Sadly, I don't think it'll be Nigel - meaning (and it'll cost them all the more), that Delia and Michael will be forced to do the needful. We've been here before: I thought the way in which our majority shareholders failed to give Bruce Rioch backing in the transfer market in 99/0, and became more and more openly receptive to Bryan Hamilton, was pretty much a case of 'constructive dismissal' of the unfortunate Rioch; and for financial reasons, I think that's what they're trying to do here too.
