I should explain to the uninitiated on here that, for reasons of finance (I'm in the final stages of a PhD, and am pretty much out of money altogether), I only get to see City a handful of times a season (generally the away games in London: meaning, given our unbelievable away record, that I probably see Norwich win even less often than most posters on here do...).
Mind you, many contributors to messageboards are similarly detached: they're a fantastic vehicle for fans worldwide to keep in touch with the goings on at their club. And while, certainly, that detachment can sometimes lead to a particularly cool, calm viewpoint, it's curious, is it not, that my perspective is so wholly different (and, I rather suspect, rather more in tune with the majority of the fanbase) from the equally detached Messrs Waghorn and Dennis?
Maybe a few years ago, I'd have been an apologist myself: Norwich's cuddly, inoffensive image was probably one of the main reasons I started following the club in the late 80s (partly because I saw myself in a similar light). But I've become an awful lot less inoffensive as I've grown up - and as a result, now view our homely stereotype as a millstone round the club's neck, leading to the self-fulfilling prophecy of lack of ambition which I've already mentioned.
At the very least, if NCFC continues to act in such a way, it simply doesn't deserve the passion and devotion so many fans feel towards it: they, as Delia herself acknowledged on Monday, deserve better.
Wealdstone, incidentally, are the local non-league club I followed while I was growing up: hence KentonCanary's mention of it, and recognition of me. Though KC, I genuinely never knew another Canaries/Stones fan existed: so out of curiosity, given I signed my original post with my name, could you put me out of my misery and tell me yours?
