Be Careful What You Wish For

On the basis that NW is unlikely to last the season, big changes are surely ahead.

With 14 players out of contract next June the likes of Hucks, Doc, Drury & Henderson will surely go (along with McVeigh, Flem, Thorne & ML-J).

Faced with a 7 million shortfall in playing budget the replacements are likely to be from the lower leagues, mixed in with the kids already on our books.

The new manager might unearth the next Adam Drury - or he might sign the next Keith Briggs. Rossi Jarvis could be the next Danny Mills ? or he could be our new Che Wilson.

Indeed, our next manager could be the next Martin O'Neill, or he might be the next Gary Megson.

Whatever happens, I suspect our new manager will be given only limited time before ?not good enough? is again the voiciferous cry.

And remember that, for all his faults, NW?s teams finished in an average placing of 5th in the second tier of English football ? far better than even the highest position achieved by Megson, Walker, Rioch or Hamilton (9th), who were all blessed with the NCFC conveyor-belt of youth talent, which dried up around 2000.
