In most circumstances the "if I fail, it just makes me all the more determined" attitude

is laudable, but it really is doing the club no favours now. It's a bit like Captain Smith of the Titanic making it back to Southampton and telling the owners of the White Star line, "yes, I know I sank that ship, but I am determined to carry on until I get it right..."
