Do you honestly think they are that unaware of the situation ?

They are perfectly aware.

They have their parameters, they have their timescales, hell they've probably even started drawing up a shortlist of successors.

Just because they maintain the public facade of being being behind him (as you'd expect any employer worth their salt to do) doesn't mean that that's the case.
