I reckon one of the dodgy transfers tonight has to be

the transfer of Alexei Smertin for a massive wedge from a team "owned" by Abramovich's son and in massive debt, to Daddy's money laundering business in West London. Was well dodgy at the time given that he was evidently never worth the fee paid and was immediately loaned out for the season to Portsmouth.

I doubt Mourinho (was it him or still Ranieri ?) gained anything, but I'd imagine Abramovich and Moscow didn't do too badly out of it.
