I'm intrigued to know what Jarvis did wrong

He got a grand total of 2 1/2 minutes, during which time he set up what should have been a goal, yet certain people were still abusing the crap out of him.

As for Hooves, I'm in no position to comment as I wasn't there, but on the radio there was a lot of "...and Hooves has given it away" and "...to Hooves...oooh, straight to Southend!" etc. in the first half.
