What kind of left-wing, would-be intellectual has never read Nineteen Eighty-Four? I read that when I was like fourteen, and then wrote a really good essay about how Big Brother was supposed to represent Stalin and stuff. The teacher said it was the best GCSE coursework essay she'd ever read in all her three years of teaching English in Horley in Surrey.

How can you not have read it? What's the deal with that? Eh?
