Help With Music Downloads Required

Afternoon All,
The deal is this. I have recently loaded all my CD's onto my PC hard drive and have been having loads of fun using Windows Media Player to belt out such classics as "I Think We're Alone Now" & "I Touch Myself".
I now want to start downloading stuff from Tinternet but I am actually looking for absolutely free stuff or cheapie albums.
I'm assuming this is illegal but frankly don't care.
I had a look at Napster with the idea of subscribing for 1 month and spending 24/7 downloading. But after reading it appears that once my subscription ends the music becomes unlistenable. How is that possible?
So any hints from WOTB ers will be appreciated for good sites for downloading.
