they're in a no-win situation though

everybody (especially the press) blames them for everything that is a problem in the country, such as anti-social behaviour, knife crime etc etc and yet when they try to do something they get accused of being 'nannying'.

Everyone seems to want them to solve all the country's problems without actually doing anything.
