IT techy help/advise required!!!

using a usb adapter card slotted into laptop to connect to printer and also my external hard-drive (its a double usb ported card) - all been working perfectly, but lately, when i look in "files" I cant see external hard drive plugged in, so cant access personal piccys, music etc (cant store it on company laptop, takes up too much of the laptops hard-drive)

when running up laptop i can see the power light on external hard drive come on and the processors light flicker, then go out!

any idea why suddenly i cant see it as an external drive?

any help appreciated!
