I take your point, but his main successes have been in cup competitions.

And the dividing line between success and failure is very small. His first season with Leicester they won the playoff final with a shinned goal by Steve Clariudge in the last minute of extra time. They lose that game and he could easily have become just another Gary Megson like manager (his favoured style of football is pretty similar) trolling round the Football League, never remotely attracting the attention of the big clubs.
He's done OK and had a lot of luck (winning the league cup twice when the big clubs REALLY didn't bother etc)
