Its because both Sunderland and boro's support is

massively overrated. Ok the mackems are a good bunch but all the NE fans seem to get lumped in together as being fanatics whereas the reality is that neither of them used to regularly sell out their old grounds before they moved to their swanky new stadium and neither actually has as big a support as we are led to believe in the media. if you look at boro's away support or the amount of empty seats there are in the stadium 15 minutes from the end of games when they are leaving it tells you everything you need to know.
