I don't KNOW it wouldnt improve the game

but I do know it is folly to mess with the game as it is. I have seen all of the best test matches of my life in the last 7 years, the previous 15 years of watching has little to compete. I would be alarmed that if you changed 42 that we would be having 3 day test matches.
