Could just be a dodgy ball

Some balls just disintergrate; recently, my side have been using Readers balls, allegedly as used in University or Minor Counties cricket (Forget which). I usually open with them, and even if I bowl a maiden the ball generally looks like it's been through the mangle after the first over. After 10 overs, the seams are starting to come apart and the varnish is long gone.

County still seem to make the best balls, but I guess even they could have a duff one.
