Far better for him to just give up and kick back, go through the motions in the reserves on his ?4k a week or whatever and then swan off on a free.
He knows more about what's going on than any of us, he knows what his likely prospects are, and he's had the guts to make a decision privately. He's not gone snivelling to the press, it's the club's decision to make this public.
I suppose if your company bought in a new accountant or whatever it is you do and you were faced with the prospect of seeing out your contract making the sodding tea, you'd be fine with this?
