...I would still prefer to see us win the next 9 games, reach the play-off final and win it. As much as I dislike the manager I still want to see a successful team.
Unfortunately, despite yesterday being more promising, I still think that we will finish mid-table. Yes, we passed the ball well in the 1st half but all too often our build up was too laboured. We need to be much more incisive and not allow the opposition to get bodies behind the ball.
I believe that Croft will prove to be a good signing but if we are to be successful we must play 2 up front so that there are people in the box to get on the end of his crosses. Earnie on his own up front is far too negative. After all, this is Championship oppostion and not Champions League opposition that we are playing so we MUST be more positive.
Our substitutions need to be better. It was only to be expected that Croft would not last a full 90 minutes but you could almost guarantee, regardless of performance that if we used all our substitutes that Robinson and Colin would make way. Just before WLU came on a number of supporters nearby (and I agreed with them) suggested that the player that should have made way was Hucks. He played well in the first half but in the second he looked very tired and I am concerned that there is seemingly a reluctance to replace the so-called star players. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of time for Hucks and he will cause a lot of defences problems but in the second half yesterday he was becoming ineffective and in my opinion should have been replaced so that we could adopt a 4-3-1-2 formation with WLU in the hole behind Earnie and McKenzie.
I hope we have a successful season and even as a worthy outer myself thought that it was out of order for the reaction of a minority of supporters yesterday. Yes, I would prefer a change of manager but it won't happen yet. If we are not in or very close to a play-off position by the end of September then a change has to be made.
