Hi all - I don't post very often and by the end of this some of you will be rather pleased that I don't.
It's almost like the close-season never existed - normal service resumes at Norwich. Sure we looked to have a much better shape with Croft on the field yesterday but he is not the answer to our problems. There are specific areas of the team that bring real cause for concern and I don't need to highlight them here, we all know what they are. Croft is a decent Championship player, he is not the key to promotion and certainly wouldn't make ANY Premier league team - Croft is at the club to fulfil a need and help in a potential fight against relegation.
Our form over the last 3 seasons has been appalling, the season in the Premier league was embarrassing and the only saviour from it was the money, although God know where that has gone. Last season was the worst I have seen in 21 years supporting the team...the very worst ever!!! I can't see how anything is going to change this season, the only bright spots being the coach Hunter and the new kids breaking into the first team.
Allow me to move on to my designated pot shot at Mr Worthington. I can handle poor man-management, tactical ineptness, hatred of the fans and lack of player motivation but why can't he get players to sign for the club? Is his reputation as a manager so poor that players don't want to come here? Mark Burchill went to Coventry yesterday for ?300k, Ipswich are to sign Noble on a season long loan from West Ham, Bendtner went to Birmingham from Arsenal and scored - just 3 players that we need at this club and would have significantly improved our chances (even with all the faults of the manager). Were we even in for any of them or is Mr Worthington holding out for Walcott, because if he is he is deluding himself. This clubs needs new players desperately, I'm not knocking anyone in particular but the current team is filled with mediocrity and a player like Mark Burchill would be an improvement, he only cost ?300k!!!
Perhaps all this is academic, perhaps the board will start to listen to the majority of fans and, given a few more losses they will have no choice but to sack Worthington. Perhaps not! I don't hate the man and I don't want us to lose (ever) but I can't see how Norwich can grow past the stage that we currently find ourselves in. Worthington is devoid of ideas and way out of his depth, any Manager with a touch of self awareness would have realised this and stepped down.
I find myself in a position for the first time in 21 years of not having any hope for the season ahead - the best we can achieve is mid-table, the worst is a relegation scrap. What the bloody hell happened?
