The bottom line is

neither you or I know for sure whether Sutton would be any good - although obviously our opinions differ. My view is that he is too old and has had too many injury problems recently for us to take a chance on him.
The fan's favourite thing I think is irrelevant - anyone that comes in and does well will immediately be a fan's favourite. And why should he do well here? There is no-one left (I think) on the playing or coaching side that was here when he was here before, we play a different style of football, and in any event he is a different player to what he was then.
Obviously on an emotional level I would love him to come back and be a success, but I don't think it would happen. And that would leave a whole generation of City fans whose only knowledge of him was as a flop, rather than the hero he once was.
