Or maybe he hasn't realised (or his agent) that the reality outside of the Premiership is that there's no money around and they're asking for wages which are too expensive for any clubs budget.
As for old men with good records not working out - I can't produce any facts to back up any statement, but logic dictates that while the risk might be higher with older players compared to younger playres, some will work out (Martin Peters, Robert Fleck, Paul McGrath (Villa), Ruel Fox (WBA), Merson (pompey) as examples) whilst others won't (Peter Thorne, Helveg, Charlton).
