Israel takes/kills people from outside its territory all the time

in fact the prisoners Hezbollah wanted to swap the soldiers for were taken by Israel inside Lebanon.

Israel could easily have made a swap to get the soldiers back (as has happened in the past) but it has a new government desparate to look strong and embarrassed at letting its soldiers get captured.

So all this pointless loss of civilian life is basically a face-saving exercise.
