people like to call it a slipped disc, of which it isn't, as, if you prolapsed a disc in

your back, you wouldn't be able to walk

So the term slipped disc, is actually the locking of a muscle in your back. Your back has loads of muscles. Where the bones in your spine stick out like mini branches, your muscles are situated in between thouse 'branches'

If you lock a muscle, two of those bones (branches) will twist, and the fluid that was in the muscle releases, leaving the muscle locked, and the bone touching the other bone, only with the nerves, and that's where the sharp pains that Jonah was getting may have come from

You unlock muscles like that by going to a chiropractor. If you don't, your body will get used to the pain and the other muscles surrounding the locked muscle will compensate for you, and you'll feel awkward pressure points round that area. Good regular exercise should mean the joints surrounding the locked muscle should stabalise and suppose said locked muscle. It's best to get used to the pain imo than go to a chiropractor, cos it's expensive, unlocking a muscles creates swelling and you need to strengthen the muscle after the swelling reaction calms down after 24 hours, if not you will risk locking the muscle again very easily as there is a weakness there. Having strong muscles around it will increase the recovery process, but it's all to easy to just go a chiropractor as the first hint of awkwardness and pain, and it becomes an expensive treatment

You might unlock it yourself one day by twisting and releasing in a rash movement (hence the extreme piss take joke in Father ted where mrs doyle walks round with a dodgy neck for days and falls down the stairs and her neck feels great afterwards)

Hope this helps, I doubt you are that interested though. I have about 6-7 locked joints in my lower back and two or three in the top half. I've got used to the pain now, although you get awkward stale pains. Tough s**t working in a office though, sat still, its easy for any of us to lock muscles when the body is still for hours on end
