Coke Zero actually tastes like (regular) Coke.
They won't change the taste of Diet Coke as there are people who like that and it has it's own market - it's seen as a separate brand / drink, whereas Coke Zero is marketed as a sugar-free version of Coke.
A bit like Pepsi Max vs Diet Pepsi.
Coke learned their lesson after they introduced "New Coke" in the 80s to replace Coca-Cola... very few people liked it, so they re-introduced Coca-Cola as "Coke Classic" (or similar), then phased out New Coke leaving just the original.
