Point of order re Film4 thread below

Yes, Lost In Translation *is* paralysingly dull but surely anyone who calls it 'dullest of all time' simply hasn't seen 'Magnolia'.

Nowadays I score films on either a Percentage of Eraserhead basis or a Percentage of Magnolia one. The %/M basis is easy to score: it's a rating based on how far into the film I get before thinking "Fuck, I don't care what happens to any of these bastards" and switch off.

I should explain that I watched Magnolia throughout as a promise to a buddy who'd lent me his copy in an effort to prove that Tom Cruise *isn't* the most worthless piece of crap ever to stand before a movie camera. Failed, I'm afraid, and it cost me THREE BASTARD HOURS of my life in so doing.

Lost in T scored sommat like an 80%/M; Kingdom of Heaven an 85%/M.

And Otto: please explain to me why The Marx Brothers are funny? I'm aware of the need to contextualise in all the creative arts - but Groucho leaves me completely baffled........
