officially you cannot book yourself a standby flight

basically , you sit at teh airport and if anyone does not turn up - they offer you teh seat - never any guarantee as to the flight you get , the cost you pay etc - I would not recommend it in peak time , because the airlines do overbook flights to allow for peeople not turning up
