without a decent target-man type striker we have NO chance

whoever else we buy. At present we have Thorne and nobody else. That won't remotely cut it at this level. We should have bought that type of player with the Ashton money since we have others (McVeigh/McKenzie) who could play Earnie's role but no-one who could play the role Ashton vacated.
