McCarthy and Worthington both had roughly the same amount of money to spend. Worthington did what he had to and that was bring in 5 or 6 new players; McCarthy practically built a new team with players just about good enough to get in a side to reach the Championship play-offs. McCarthy should have used the money to buy 3 or 4 players, not a new team.

McCarthy did the wrong thing and build a Championship-esque side, was found out and punished with a travesty of the season in the Premiership; Worthington brought in the right players, and like McCarthy, failed to make good use of them
