I laugh because I have felt the pain too!
AOL back in the day, when they charged a fee for however many minutes. Then a "service fee" for the day, and an hourly fee too! An few hours on the internet at 28.8k speeds back then would get you a months internet at 512k these days! LOL. All that expense and the service was pretty bad too, especially with their own browsing software - and them forcing the use of "AOL Keywords" as well!
Nothing was worse than when I was with Freeserve though (towards the end before it became Wanadoo) - they disconnected me every two minutes, you had to dial-up before every page to read it! They punished me for getting their "anytime package" and actually using it at anytime! How dare I?!
