A copy of Nigel's press statement [which be officially aired at the NCFC Press Conference today at 16.30 BST] has been leaked, and I have the full transcript:
(hold onto your gonads, kids...)
"I have got you all here this afternoon to announce that I am leaving my position as manager of Norwich City [Football Club] with immediate effect. After a lot of soul-searching, I decided that I had taken the team as far as I could. I'd like to thank everyone at Norwich City who I've worked with over the last 6 years, I have had some wonderful times. Of course, the highlight was without a doubt winning the Championship title, meaning that we got to play at some lovely grounds like Highbury and Old Trafford the following season. One for the scrapbook, our premiership season.
I know that a small minority of supporters were calling for me to go last season, which to be fair, I swept aside no problem. Those people have not affected my decision at all. I thought it was time for someone to take over from me, to work alongside the new coach, and inject some youth into the management set-up.
Mrs Smith, Mr Doncaster and Mr Wynn-Jones were all very understanding this morning. They did not try to convince me to stay in the manager role, which I respected and appreciated.
They were also more than happy to immediately move me into my new role within Norwich City Football Club, as Director Of Football. It has been my ambition for some time to hold this position and job title, and I'd like to thank the board for making this happen.
My first job in my new position was an easy one: to appoint the new manager of Norwich City Football Club. I wanted someone with youth and yet a bundle of experience, with grit, will to win, determination and workrate. As Norwich prides itself on being a family club, I made the decision to appoint from within the club. So now I would like to announce Andy Hughes as the new player-manager of Norwich City Football Club.
Thank you Andy, and thank you all for coming along here today at such short notice.
