you need a separate power supply. Some laptops don't have enough 'juice' to power a usb card, so you need to plug the hub in separately. What is the make and model of the card? Try uninstalling everything, removing the card and then downloading the drivers from the manufacturer's website and installing them.
Have got seperate power supply, and its plugged into the card and is running. The card has a NEC chipset, which (from searching on google) has a major problem with Windows XP SP2 - and there is no update - so it might be f**ked
