Goes into fairly traditional rock 'n' roll really. As for the reggae influences, The Pop Group took a similar direction with far more original results. And Gang of Four's 'Entertainment' has far more edge, and is more thoughtful lyrically - less dogmatic and more analytical.
I own the first three Clash albums and their singles collection, and saw Joe Strummer live. If I know the Pop Group and Gang of Four, it's quite unlikely that my view of The Clash is going to be based on "total and utter ignorance". They were very good. They just weren't *that* good.
The Dead Kennedys had much more edge too, now I think of it.
