It really wasn't the same thing at all. The one similarity was the lack of a plan in

place for their successors.

I agree firing Farke was the most ridiculous decision and at that point I think it was only a vocal minority of fans, not the majority at all. We have been reminded of how stupid that decision was by his trajectory versus our own. Nevertheless a silly decision we may have got away with had we actually got that list of managers with continuity of style and philosophy we were promised, but oh no, we got Dean Smith and were then treated to a dirge of football the likes of which we hadn't seen since.....

Chris Hughton, on the other hand, produced awful football and the majority of fans wanted him out by the end, despite liking him as a human being. He inherited a squad that was good enough to push on, but he couldn't do it. And so he was let go, as he was at all the clubs afterward when he also couldn't push them on to the next level.

The biggest problem with the Hughton sacking wasn't the Hughton sacking, but with the replacement. You have a squad that is underperforming and needs turning around in a very short space of time in order to survive, and we chose to bring in a nice guy, a mate of the players, who had never managed a senior team in his entire life. And suddenly he has to stir up the squad in the Premier League with only a few games left.
