The problem is it takes a decent sample size.
There are better stats but almost all are subjective or need nuance.
The person recording the xG stat has one bite and moves on after giving his/her opinion.
A club could look at many angles and replays of a chance to see if the xG rating was fair.
They could also adjust for quality of opposition.
Also for rest and travel which we 100% know changes player performance
You would also clearly need a large sample size to form a decent opinion.
