We make lead flashings for the roofing and building trades. This time last year we were very slow, and there were a few layoffs/redundancies......and within five or six weeks we were taking on inexperienced temps again.
Still, what can we do? Bit hard to keep motivated.
Not long after, last year, I was rushed off my feet to the extent that they drafted someone in to take some of my weight. A few months later when we tailed off again, he was 'seconded' by our sister factory (they wanted to get rid of him but I kicked up all hell of a stink as he was a really good worker, so they sent him 'next door' to keep him in a job) - and then, two months later, they announced redundancies in THA factory, and I learned that he was getting the boot from there instead. So once again I started booting furniture about until he was taken on again in our place. I wonder if he'll survive this latest thing?
