He’s an absolute top bloke

Norman Cook turning up to play Happy Hour at Glastonbury was special.

The Housemartins were fab. That first Beautiful South album is excellent, Briana Corrigan was a brilliant vocalist on those first three records but Jacqui Abbott was gold dust. She had an Incredible voice, I was so glad they got back in touch again after a decade or so (through Facebook too!) to make those solo albums together. TBS were nothing without Jacqui, they really lost something when she left them.

If you haven’t heard it, the solo album Manchester Calling is the best of their collaborations. Rianne Downey is fun but she’s no Jacqui.

It’s mildly amusing seeing the song Heatongrad on the BBC with that opening line. Mary Whitehouse would be rolling in her grave.
