What they say / What they mean

1) "I no longer wish to feel as though I am living under a constant spotlight, where every aspect of my life is subject to public examination and judgement."

Should read "Despite being successful I was boastful and sought to exaggerate my achievements. Now that I am being challenged - and because there really is no defence - I am going to run away until it all blows over"

2) "I can't make people believe me," he said. "Nobody lives their life having a receipt for every single thing they say or they've done."

Should read "I've been caught out but cannot possibly admit to being a bulls**tter"

I don't care who you are, or what side of the argument you are on, why have we, as a society, lost the ability to be honest and say "Sorry, I f**ked up"?
